Catholics Cannot Vote for McCain
Just in case you know of anyone naive enough to follow Brownback's misguided endorsement of John McCain... From ontheissues.org:
# Supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. (May 2007)
# Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)
# Expand embryonic stem cell research. (Jun 2004)
# Supports fetal tissue research; against over-intensity. (Jan 2000)# “Family Conference” if daughter wanted an abortion. (Jan 2000)
What a considerate father. Not such a good grandpa, though. At least he didn't offer to pay for the abortion, like Rudy did.
# Abortion OK if raped; and no testing for rape. (Jan 2000)
How does this make any sense? All a woman would have to do is say she was raped, and another child is murdered and thrown away, no questions asked. Absurd. I hope he's changed his position on this, not that I would be convinced even if he said he had.
# Overturn Roe v. Wade, but keep incest & rape exceptions. (Jan 2000)
# Wants Roe vs. Wade made irrelevant, but would not repeal it. (Aug 1999)
# Supports repealing Roe v. Wade. (May 2007)
Is he more "pro-life" than Rudy? Possibly. But a pro-life that allows abortion in cases of rape yet doesn't test for rape, flip-flops on whether to repeal Roe v. Wade, and VOTED FOR EXPANDING RESEARCH TO MORE EMBRYONIC STEM CELL LINES is NOT a pro-life any Catholic can support in good, well-formed conscience. McCain, like the other establishment repubs (Romney, Thompson, Bush I, Bush II, Huckabee, etc.) just wants your votes. At least Rudy is up front about his complicity in child murder. Embryonic stem cell research is just a less messy form of child murder. From McCain's own website:
As president, John McCain will strongly support funding for promising research programs, including amniotic fluid and adult stem cell research and other types of scientific study that do not involve the use of human embryos. Where federal funds are used for stem cell research, Senator McCain believes clear lines should be drawn that reflect a refusal to sacrifice moral values and ethical principles for the sake of scientific progress, and that any such research should be subject to strict federal guidelines.
So he doesn't support embryonic stem cell research, except when he does. This is an example of a political promise on which the candidate has no intent of delivery, when examined in light of his voting record which is directly contrary to his promises. It's barely even a promise; he's telling you on his own website that he supports the slaughter of unborn children.
Pro-lifers are understandably confused, as they should be, how Brownback could endorse McCain. McCain is merely another politician who promises big things to pro-lifers in one hand, while enabling by action or inaction the culture of death with the other. Better than Hillary? Sure, but only by degrees. Fifty million murdered unborn children say: THAT IS NOT ENOUGH.
Nominate McCain, and he loses to Hillary anyway. If he didn't, do you really think any less children would be murdered every day? Are you going to buy that, again?
You deserve better.
