To Horse! The Secular Assault Continues

Who is a greater danger to Holy Mother Church, Militant Islam or Militant Secularism?  Many Catholics have a greater concern for Militant Islam with its small scale terrorist tactics.  However, I believe Militant Secularism is a much greater threat with its entrenchment in large governing bodies like the UN, the EU, and the US.  Today's news illustrates the pervasiveness of their assault. 

First, in Belgium we see a crackdown on homeschooling, an educational revolutionary tactic effectively used by many Catholics, requiring homeschoolers to educate along the lines of the UN Convention on Children's Rights.  This is an assault on parents and subsequently the Church.

Second, Cardinal Trujillo warns that the Church may be brought, "infront of some international Court" for, "speaking in defense of life  and for the rights of the family is becoming in some societies a type of crime against the State, a form of disobedience to the Government, a discrimination against women."

Third and final, Gloria Feldt, former president of Planned Parenthood, demonstrates Cardinal Trujillo's warning by chastising prolife critics of the new Buffett-Gates philanthropic alliance:  "They have no right whatsoever to criticize people who put their money were their mouths are." 

Gloria reminds us of something that is becoming increasingly common in the first world governance of the UN, the EU, and the US: We have "NO, RIGHT[S]."

Bundy Money

Dr. Peter Kreeft of Boston College explains why many Catholic universities removed crucifixes from their classrooms:

No one understood that, so he explained that President Carter's secretary of state, McGeorge Bundy, had brokered a deal by which federal money could go to private schools if and only if those schools were not sectarian, divisive, discriminatory... something like that. And - by coincidence - all 21 Jesuit colleges took down their crucifixes from their classrooms in the year following that decision. So when he explained that to the students, the students were rather scandalized, and one said, "Oh, no, we wouldn't do that for money."

And he said, "Of course you wouldn't, but I hope you got more than thirty pieces of silver this time." Rather wicked... some of them were so biblically illiterate that he had to explain to them that Judas Iscariot was the first Catholic bishop to accept a government grant.

Correction: Bundy was not Carter's Secy of State, at the time he was in charge of the Ford Foundation.  I still like the quote about Judas.
